Hello, my name is Alison and it's been two weeks since my last run.
I don't have a reason for that except that I'm lazy and tired and just haven't felt like running.
None of those are good reasons.
None of them are going to help me cross the finish line in November.
And none of those are going to excuse the fact that I'm slacking.
I can very easily sit back and complain about how tired I am or how fat I feel. I can complain about the other work and commitments I have. I can complain until the cows come home but it won't do me any good. My goal is to get across that finish line in under 6 hours.
(I figure if I put out there a larger number like 6, it'll be great when I do it in 5.)
My goal is also to raise money for the American Cancer Society. And I can't do that sitting on my ass.
Well, I can, but I still have to get those 26.2 miles in on November 2nd.
So, I sit here, having just gotten off the scale and seeing far too much weight on there, and I've made an appointment with myself and a friend to run tonight. And then another appointment with a spin bike tomorrow morning. And then another appointment for a run on Wednesday morning.
I don't flake on my meetings at work. I cannot keep flaking on myself.
I'm not running to beat anyone. I'm not training to win the marathon.
I'm doing this because, as the kids say "YOLO", and because the miles I spend with nothing but my feet and my music change me and help me make a difference. And I know, because of what I've seen in the past, that I like the change and the difference I can make.
So, my appointments are in my calendar. They're in digital ink. They are THERE and they aren't changing.
My name is Alison and right now it's been two weeks since my last run but that's changing tonight.
